Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Nutrition, Physical Activity, and ObesitySubject Matter Expert (SME)
Position Status: Contingent upon contract award.
Position Summary
Serve as a senior technical authority in one or more DNPAO strategy areas and provide evidence-informed consultation, technical assistance, product review, training, and strategic guidance to CDC, recipients, and partners. This role supports DNPAO's need for highly specialized expertise across food service guidelines, produce prescription and food-is-medicine programs, physical activity access, healthier food access, Early Care and Education, Family Healthy Weight Programs, breastfeeding, Tribal populations, arthritis, and related policy, systems, and environmental strategies. SMEs may support the consultant network, recipient technical assistance, trainings, evidence reviews, policy and program guidance, and scientific or practice-oriented products.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized consultation, technical assistance, and strategic recommendations in assigned DNPAO priority areas.
- Review scientific, programmatic, policy, training, and communication products for accuracy and relevance.
- Support the network of specialized consultants and match expertise to recipient needs.
- Guide adaptation of strategies for diverse populations, settings, and implementation contexts.
- Lead or contribute to trainings, presentations, workgroups, site visits, and partner engagements.
- Contribute to evidence reviews, technical guidance, reports, tools, frameworks, and dissemination products.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree.
- Experience: At least 10 years of directly relevant experience in the proposed specialty, including senior advisory or technical leadership responsibility. Experience supporting evidence-based public health strategies, recipient or practitioner technical assistance, scientific or policy products, and federal, state, local, Tribal, territorial, community, or national partners is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, timely, and high-quality work in a multidisciplinary, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration, organization, judgment, and client-service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting CDC, HHS, another federal health agency, a public health recipient network, or a comparable mission-focused organization.
