- Dining Business System Analyst
Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Under general supervision, the Business Systems Analyst will provide business system and analytical expertise for the dining services department to facilitate its operational goals. This position is responsible for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting data essential for planning, decision-making, and assessing performance within the university's dining services. The analyst assists with translating business requirements into technical specifications, supports system implementations and enhancements, and develops reporting and analytical tools that support decision-making and operational performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
System Integration & Requirements Development - Work closely with dining services staff to understand operational processes and information needs, developing clear system requirements for dining-related platforms, including Transact IDX, Cloud POS, and physical card readers. Act as the liaison between dining services and University Technology (UTech). Review deliverables from UTech to ensure the proper presentation of data and systems for client needs. (15%)
Data Analysis & Reporting - Perform advanced data analysis to support dining services operations, financial performance, and strategic initiatives. Develop and maintain regular and ad hoc reports related to dining transactions, operational metrics, and financial performance. Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for operational improvements through data analysis. Assist in developing key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting tools that support departmental planning and decision-making. (15%)
Data Management & Solutions Development - Partner with dining services to identify data requirements, designing solutions to address operational needs. Collect, interpret, and analyze data from various sources to assist in strategic planning and performance reporting. Assist in designing reporting structures and dashboards that provide meaningful operational insights and improve access to information across the department. (15%)
Business Process Optimization & System Support - Conduct interviews with key stakeholders to analyze business rules, processes, and requirements. Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements to optimize workflows, data management, and reporting systems. Support the development of system customizations, configurations, and day-to-day operations. Work closely with leadership to integrate data and processes across multiple systems to improve operational efficiency. (15%)
System Testing & Implementation Support - Participate in system upgrades, implementations, and enhancements for dining services platforms. Assist with developing test plans, conducting system testing, and documenting results to ensure system functionality meets operational requirements. Identify and escalate issues discovered during testing and work with technical teams to resolve them prior to deployment. (10%)
Data Quality & System Integrity - Support efforts to ensure the accuracy and integrity of dining services data. Assist in identifying data discrepancies, investigating root causes, and recommending corrective actions. Develop queries and reports to monitor system data and operational activity to support quality control and compliance with university standards. (10%)
Training, Documentation & User Support - Assist in developing documentation, user guides, and training materials for dining services systems and reporting tools. Provide guidance and support to end users on system functionality and reporting capabilities. Help ensure training resources and support materials are available through internal department resources. (10%)
Collaboration with UTech & Support Services - Work with UTech and vendor support teams to troubleshoot system issues and coordinate resolutions. Assist in monitoring system performance, supporting system access requests, and ensuring user roles align with university security protocols. Participate in discussions regarding system enhancements and operational technology needs within dining services. (10%)

CONTACTS
Department: Work with dining services on policy and planning of resources, services, and operations. Frequently collaborate with staff on all levels of the organization to support the provision of excellent services and resources
University: Consult regularly with UTech to ensure efficient and effective design and implementation of technology-based solutions. Consult and collaborate with CS directors and key staff to ensure effective design and management.
External: Direct collaboration with Transact and other technology operations and supported technologies
Students: Occasional contact for support or feedback on dining services.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 1 to 3 years administrative work experience required; experience in a university or non-profit setting preferred.
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to manage and maintain sensitive, confidential data.
Experience with business systems design and implementation.
Proficiency in developing business metrics and KPIs for operational performance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Experience in data reconciliation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
Ability to analyze complex data, interpret business needs, and develop effective solutions.
Ability to implement business process improvements to optimize performance across departments.
Knowledge of principles and methods of systems analysis, including business processes and methods related regulations, policies, and procedures for procurement.
Systems design principles, methodologies, and tools, including those applicable to web-based environments.
Principles and practices of sound business communications in order to establish and maintain effective communication within and across the organization. Communicates clearly and effectively to various audiences of technical and non-technical personnel orally and in writing
Ability to translate business needs, requirements and technology parameters and constraints with information systems professionals.
Ability to work collaboratively with team members, core functional leaders, subject matter experts, a variety of end users, ITS and customer/governance groups to ensure project accountability.
Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.
Ability to meet consistent attendance.
Willingness to learn and utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI).
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office working conditions with occasional stress involved. The position requires frequent use of computers and a variety of software applications, including data reporting and analysis tools.
