Description

This is your opportunity to work in a great working environment for a local employer of choice.  CFU is currently recruiting for a full-time Network Engineering Supervisor in our Communications Operations Department. This is a first-level supervisor of network engineering staff; responsible for leading the daily operation, maintenance and design of the Internet data network for Communications Services and performs on-call duties as assigned.

he Network Engineering Supervisor reports to the Director of Communications Services.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $83,884 - $115,041.  Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications. 
  • Position is considered exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm. 
  • Full-time benefits package including health, dental, vision and life insurance. 

This position will be re-evaluated for future career progression to a management role in 2022.

  • Responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of switches routers and servers necessary for the operation of the Communications Net MAN and WAN; Responsible for the design and planning of the fiber network; Optimize the purchase and delivery of IP Network services to customers. Adhere to industry standards for the delivery of high quality services; Serves as backup for the Head End Technician.

  • Provide technical support to CFU subscribers of commercial and residential communication products as well as wholesale Internet service providers; Programs and troubleshoots computer network system including tools for maintenance and other applications. Evaluates and studies new products and technologies and provides recommendations and justifications for their use; Prepares and maintains network engineering budget.

  • Supervise the daily operations of network engineering staff including work assignments, training and performance evaluations.

  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers, co-workers and management; Recognizes team needs by encouraging involvement and reviewing results. Establishes work procedures and processes that supports company and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic directives.


Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

•Operation, setup, and maintenance of Cisco or Juniper routers and switches

•BGP, OSPF, spanning tree and multi-layer switching

•TCP/IP-based services such as DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, SNMP andTFTP

•Thorough understanding of the OSI network model and Ethernet networks

•Network monitoring and security utilities

•Linux servers and related software

•C, C++, PHP or Perl programming languages

•MySQL database administration

•Fiber optic and Ethernet test equipment

•RF and IP video delivery for cable TV systems

 

Ability to: Communicate effectively dealing with internal and external customers including vendors and customers; utilize critical thinking and problem solving techniques; set and meet deadlines; carry out work assignments as instructed; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work; respond promptly to emergencies.

Education: A bachelor’s degree in MIS or Computer Science.

Experience: Eight years in network administration or related field.

Certifications/License: CCNA or equivalent required.

Residency: Required to live within a 20 minute drive time from the CFU office building. Residency within Cedar Falls city limits is encouraged.

PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS –Work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
