Description
ABOUT US
MVP funds local organizing and movement-building groups working to shift culture, win power, and shape policy.
MVP operates like a “mutual fund” for political giving: We raise money from donors, then channel it toward the most impactful organizations and power-building work around the country. Learn more: https://movement.vote.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Digital Communications Manager, you will drive a “surround-sound” digital strategy to steward our donors, build our digital pipeline, scale up donor acquisition, and level up our digital fundraising.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
Note: This is not necessarily an exhaustive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required.
Website Strategy
- Maintain and refresh our websites: movement.vote and movementvoterfund.org.
- Optimize our sites for donor acquisition and stewardship, user accessibility, and other goals.
- Analyze performance and iterate to improve conversion rates and user engagement.
Email Marketing
- Manage our email program across all segments, with a focus on our small and mid-level donors.
- Lead and scale our digital fundraising program while preserving our "anti-salesy" brand.
- Optimize performance through rigorous testing, automations, and ongoing iteration.
Social Platforms
- Lead and execute our social strategy and grow our audience and reach across social platforms.
- Strategically maximize engagement in digital communities ripe with ideal donor prospects.
- Build our pipeline for converting followers into email subscribers and lifelong donors.
Creator Partnerships (Pilot Phase)
- Recruit and manage a network of digital creators to amplify MVP to new audiences.
- Collaborate on creator-driven content that positions MVP as a leader in political giving.
- Monitor partnerships to identify, cultivate, and steward high-potential leads.
Digital Ads (Pilot Phase)
- Pilot, test, and scale ad campaigns to acquire high-potential email subscribers and donors.
- Strategically target and qualify prospects for our major and small-dollar donor pipelines.
- Optimize ad creative and ad spend to maximize high-quality acquisition and minimize costs.
Digital Asset Management
- Manage, maintain, and expand our internal library of graphics, photos, videos, and other assets.
- Lead the creation of digital assets that we can use across our communication channels.
WHAT ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW
- Tiny comms team: You’ll join a small-but-mighty comms team of two: Zo Tobi (Comms Director and a comms/marketing generalist) and Annie Lipsitz (Donor Comms Manager, specializing in donor-facing written content). Zo will be your main strategic thought partner, and you will collaborate closely with Annie on the many intersections of your day-to-day work. Due to our team size, no task is “beneath” us, as we balance visionary strategizing, meticulous implementation, and downright mundane grunt work.
- Broad collaboration: Your work will also intersect with many parts of MVP, including: The Donor Advising Team, which stewards our major and mega donors; our emerging Mid-Level Donor Team, which stewards and upgrades our mid-level donors (and which has a special interest in piloting email campaign-based stewardship and solicitation); the Foundations Team, which stewards our institutional and other 501(c)(3) funders; and the Donor Organizing Team, which supports donors of all levels to organize their networks to fundraise for MVP.
- Huge vision: MVP is out to "expand the funding pie" for year-round organizing and movement building — and in the process, shift the culture of civic and political giving, from gambling billions on transactional voter contact and vanishing ads to investing in power that lasts. To do this, we need to build a movement of donors, from small recurring givers to billionaires, who are committed to this vision for the long haul. Your role is a key piece of making this happen.
- Breaking new ground: Our Comms Team prides itself on punching above its weight, but we’ve barely scratched the surface of digital marketing and communications — due to both limited hours and limited talents! We lack a clear or explicit strategy for web and email (e.g., audience segments, objectives, user journeys, analytics, etc.). We are doing the bare minimum on socials (on a good day). Our creator partnerships are scarce. We’ve done zilch on digital ads. All to say: We are looking for a teammate with the vision, verve, and skills to drive and execute strategy, in a way that significantly uplevels our digital marketing and communications.
- Sure bets vs. early pilots: Some of the responsibilities listed above are sure bets: Managing our website, our basic email program, and social media. Other areas — specifically, creator partnerships, digital ads, and a more explicitly solicitation-based email strategy — are very nascent. As a result, you will be designing and leading early pilots, and the extent to which we continue to invest in these areas of work will depend on how the pilot efforts go.
- A brand for the big leagues: Since 2016, we’ve moved hundreds of millions of dollars from tens of thousands of donors to hundreds of local groups — by being the exact opposite of the pushy, manipulative political spam everyone hates. You will help us scale to the next level while protecting the spirit of respect, candor, and trustworthiness that sets us apart in our sector.
