Overview
Rutgers University Brain Imaging Center (RUBIC) is a state-of-the-art fMRI facility that enables researchers from the Rutgers campuses as well as those from nearby institutions to develop new research strategies and increase understanding of brain processes underlying typical functioning (e.g. human development, learning and memory, perceptual dynamics, neuroeconomics, computational neuroimaging) as well as atypical functioning such as that associated with developmental problems, mental illness, and addiction. RUBIC have been in operation for over ten years and are equipped with two 3T Siemens MR scanners, the TRIO and the PRISMA, as well as supporting peripheral devices for researchers to collect their data.

Rutgers University–Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey—a city of promise—is seeking an MRI Research Technologist for the Rutgers University Brain Imaging Center (RUBIC). Reporting to the RUBIC Director, the MRI Research Technologist will set up research scanning protocols, scan subjects, support research activities, and provide oversight, support, and quality control for the Siemens TRIO and PRISMA scanners and peripheral equipment. RUBIC is a state-of-the-art MRI facility that enables Rutgers researchers, as well as researchers from other institutions and industry across the region, to conduct a wide variety of studies.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.
Provides support and expertise in operating and helping to design, select, and provision MR protocols for Principal Investigators (PIs) using the scanners and peripheral equipment.
Sets up scanning protocols, scans subjects, supports research, oversees IRB protocols, and ensures they are followed
Sets up, uses, maintains, and trains users on all peripheral equipment, including, but not limited to, equipment for eye tracking and physiological data collection, aural and visual stimulus presentation devices, and high-capacity data storage and analysis, projectors.
Provides support for the day-to-day maintenance, operation, organization, and management of RUBIC’s facilities.
Ensures all equipment is operated properly and safely, and that all HIPAA and other requirements are met, and information is protected, confidential, and secure

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field or discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general research principles and practices. Also requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional research experience, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires an MRI technologist certificate in NJ, familiarity with Siemens MRI, and experience with subjects/patients in scanning and scanning protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
More than five years of experience in a relevant MR/medical field is highly desirable.
Equipment Utilized
Siemens TRIO and PRISMA MRI scanners, BIOPAC physiological monitoring, EyeLink eye tracker, fORP button boxes, equipment for eye tracking and physiological data collection, aural and visual stimulus presentation devices, and high-capacity data storage and analysis, projectors, and presentation software, and knows or will learn all equipment, hardware, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position, and will complete all requested and required training.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Fast-paced MRI facility. Able to comfortably lift and move 30 pounds. Work involves prolonged standing, walking, and sitting, as well as the use of medical equipment. Must demonstrate manual dexterity. Some stooping, reaching, climbing, and bending are required.
