Operate/interpret a dual-polarization weather radar equipped with IRIS and TITAN software and simultaneously direct multiple aircraft for cloud seeding operations. Identification of suitable clouds; clear communication with aircraft via two-way radio; operation of Windows, Mac, and Linux/Unix-based software; pilot briefings; meteorological record keeping; direction and supervision of an intern meteorologist; supervision of chemical inventory; and assisting with radar calibrations and maintenance. Other duties include monitoring local weather conditions, interaction with National Weather Service personnel and the public, and data entry.
The North Dakota Department of Water Resources will conduct a pre-project ground school and orientation in Fargo, ND on May 27-29, 2026; all project personnel are required to attend. The field phase of the project begins at noon on June 1, 2026 and continues as weather dictates, 24-hours a day, seven days a week, through the project’s conclusion on August 31, 2026.
Requirements
Bachelor of Arts or Science in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or Related Field by the start of ground school on May 27, 2026.
Experience with radar operation and short-term forecasting of deep convection; recent experience in operational convective cloud seeding are desirable.
