About your Team 
You’ll be joining the Development and Communications Team, a group of hard working, creative individuals who are responsible for leading people through the process of learning who we are and what we are about to helping them understand why it matters and how they can be a part of it. About the Role 
The Director of Development & Communications (D0DC) is a key staff person responsible for development and implementation of a successful multi-year strategic and comprehensive philanthropy plan that will ensure significant income to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) of the Bluegrass. The DoDC will partner with the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), CEO, Board of Directors, and Special Events Committee to ensure success in achieving RMHC of the Bluegrass goals in support of its strategic annual fundraising objectives. 

The Director of Development & Communications will independently do the following with minimal supervision: 

 Development 

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive annual fundraising plan, performing SWOT analysis to identify strategies, prioritize tasks, and create a fundraising calendar with specific timelines, activities, and expected outcomes. including the management of special event sponsorships as well as designated sponsorships. 

  • Expand major giving, mid-level giving, and corporate partnerships. 

  • Incorporate giving societies and initiatives which expand our reach in the community. 

  • Increase existing and lapsed donor giving through meaningful solicitation and stewardship plans.  

  • Focus on new donor acquisition by expanding awareness of mission through innovative strategies. 

  • Prioritize recording meaningful donor interactions in Raiser’s Edge NXT in a timely manner. 

  • Provide support and oversite to RMHC’s special events fundraising efforts and co-manage the Special Events Committee with Special Events & Community Engagement Manager. 

  • Supervise Development & Database Coordinator to ensure timely and accurate database entries into Raiser’s Edge NXT system along with overseeing gift acknowledgements, check requests and financial batches, mailing lists, Raiser’s Edge queries and reporting. 

  • Understand RMHC gift-related policies and procedures to ensure ethical compliance, as defined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. 

  • Participate in chapter-wide leadership and professional sector activities to maintain a high-level understanding of the local fundraising climate, trends, and best practices.  

  • Collaborate with CPO and other Development staff on Chapter-wide Development initiatives to include reporting out to Leadership Team on monthly dashboard highlights. 

  • Attend community-sponsored events and speaking engagements as needed. 

Marketing & Communications 

  • Implement a dynamic marketing plan, deepening brand awareness with a focus on converting awareness into action through leveraging social media, website, collateral, press and engagement opportunities. 

  • Facilitate annual marketing & communications planning strategies across all departments. 

  • Act as a brand steward, upholding RMHC Global brand standards and consistency. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

The Director of Development & Communications will do the following in collaboration with the Chief Philanthropy Officer: 

  • Craft & submit foundation proposals & provide periodic progress reports as required. 

  • Manage department budget, prepare financial reports, and analyze Key Performance Indicators.  

  • Develop resources to support the Board of Directors, CEO, and CPO to identify and solicit major gifts and opportunities.  

  • Identify a portfolio of donors with solicitation plan for CEO and CPO to maximize major gifts. 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 5-7 years of professional fundraising experience to include donor prospect identification, cultivation, stewardship, proposals, and recognition, OR any appropriate combination of education and experience. 

  • Direct experience developing and executing fundraising strategies. 

  • Experience asking for and closing five and six figure gifts. 

  • Experience working with current and changing trends in charitable giving, including capital campaigns, major gifts, planned giving, and peer to peer fundraising. 

  • Proven success in building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents, individual donors, foundations, and corporations. 

  • Possess a strong understanding of fundraising metrics, budgets, and financial acumen with a strong attention to detail. 

  • Ability to personally manage a portfolio of up to 100 relationships and provide oversite to our constituents at large. 

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.  

  • Strong, self-directed team leader with demonstrated leadership abilities. 

  • Team player that eagerly collaborates and works well with other staff, board members, volunteers. donors, RMHC of the Bluegrass families, and vendors. 

  • Ability to utilize and enhance available technology to facilitate better and more efficient event management. 

  • Technical skills include a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to leverage and enhance existing processes with technology. Familiarity with mobile bidding, project management, and donor database systems preferred. Experience with One Cause and Raisers Edge NXT is a plus. 

  • Readily adaptable to new SAS (software as a service) platforms 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to perform physical tasks normally associated with working in a business office and at off-site fundraising events and will be exposed to occupational hazards normally associated with those environments. The employee must be able to see, hear, and speak English fluently. They must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Chapter’s motor vehicle insurance policy. 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

The salary range for this position is $ 29 - $31 per hour, commensurate with experience, and is in line within our RMHC regional salary bands for this position. This position earns overtime and holiday pay at the rate of 1.5 times the regular rate of pay for hours worked. Benefits for this position represent an additional 30% value to the overall compensation package. 

  • Health care plans (including medical, vision, and dental) for individuals, partners, and families including FSA and DCFSA options. 100% of the employee’s health care premium is paid for by RMHC. Insurance begins on the first day of the following month upon hire. 

  • Fully covered long term disability, short term disability, AD&D, and life insurance. 

  • Progressive paid time off beginning with the equivalent of 19 days (or 154 hours per year, accrued at 5.85 hours per pay period) in the first year of employment, plus 11 paid holidays. 

  • Flexible scheduling. This position is eligible for hybrid work after a satisfactory introduction period with a dedicated workspace at our physical location.
