The Million Veteran Program (MVP) is the largest and most diverse genetic and health database in the Department of Veterans Affairs, with over 1 million Veterans enrolled since 2011. This national, voluntary research initiative studies how genes, lifestyle, military experiences, and environmental exposures influence health and wellness.
We are seeking a Computer Scientist (Web Application QA engineer) to ensure the quality, security, and accessibility of a mission-critical web application for a Veteran research program. This platform includes a public-facing website with informational content, a secure application for participant consent and survey completion, and integrated features for Specimen kit requests and VA appointment scheduling.
Key Responsibilities
- Participant registration and consent process
- Survey completion and submission
- Specimen kit request and tracking
- Appointment scheduling with VA facilities
- Verify website content for accuracy, formatting, and responsiveness across devices and browsers.
- Ensure consistency of branding and accessibility in content presentation.
- Confirm survey data integrity and correct storage in the database.
- Conduct Section 508/WCAG 2.x audits using JAWS, WAVE, ANDI.
- Validate keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and color contrast for all pages and forms.
- Verify email templates for appointment confirmations, kit shipment updates, and survey reminders.
- Test for accessibility, deliverability, and correct dynamic content.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- MUST be a US Citizen and MUST clear a US government background check
- Resume must indicate full-time or part-time for each position listed under work experience. Part-time positions should also include # of hours.
- DEGREE: Computer Science: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
- EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one year of related experience at the lower GS level. Per OPM, the minimum qualification requirements are one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service (GS-11 for GS-12 fills) or education substitution for GS-12 research jobs (Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field to the position being hired into)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Web application QA experience and development environments (JavaScript, HTML, SQL, CSS).
- Understanding of core security and QA principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
