The Database Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of the institution’s database environments across on-premises and cloud platforms, with primary focus on Oracle databases supporting enterprise administrative systems. In addition to core database administration duties, this role serves as a technical administrator for Oracle-based administrative applications, most notably Ellucian Banner. The DBA ensures the availability, reliability, security, and performance of mission-critical systems and collaborates closely with the Lead Database Administrator, system administrators, application teams, vendors, and functional departments to maintain stable, secure, and high-performing environments that support institutional operations and strategic objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Administer, monitor, and maintain Oracle database environments, including installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades across onpremises and cloud platforms.
Troubleshoot database and application performance, availability, and integrity issues, identifying root causes and implementing longterm solutions.
Optimize database performance through tuning, indexing, storage management, and proactive resource monitoring.
Support Ellucian Banner environments, ensuring proper integration, configuration, and tuning of associated Oracle components.
Manage backup and recovery strategies to ensure data protection and system resilience.
Collaborate with system administrators and application teams to support Windows, Linux, IIS, and Tomcat environments interfacing with Oracle databases, with sufficient technical fluency to troubleshoot issues and coordinate resolution across teams.
Ensure security compliance through user access management, auditing, patching, and adherence to institutional policies.
Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years as an Oracle Database Administrator supporting enterprise environments, including experience working with Oracle-backed enterprise application deployments and supporting associated database/application environments.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
Strong analytical and problemsolving skills; effective written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and collaboratively across technical and functional teams.
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
Oracle RDBMS administration, installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades; performance tuning and troubleshooting; RMAN backup/recovery; strong working knowledge of Linux and Windows server environments; familiarity with IIS, Tomcat, and common web service architectures; knowledge of Oracle’s role in Ellucian Banner.
Equipment Knowledge
Standard office computing equipment; database monitoring tools, cloud consoles, and related utilities.
Other
Ability to participate in afterhours maintenance and oncall rotation as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal Education:
Master’s degree preferred.
Work Experience:
Experience supporting highereducation administrative systems; handson administration of Oracle within Ellucian Banner environments.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills):
Ability to coordinate technical work across teams, including upgrades, maintenance windows, and incident response.
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area):
Knowledge of highereducation business processes and student information systems.
Equipment Knowledge:
Familiarity with cloud database services such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS RDS, or Azurebased offerings.
Other:
Oracle DBA certifications (OCP/OCA) desirable.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Tools, machinery and equipment used: Computers, database monitoring tools, administrative consoles, backup/recovery utilities, and system management platforms.
Environmental conditions: (any unusual/adverse conditions such as exposure to chemicals, noise, illumination, air quality, weather exposure etc.). Typical office environment; occasional afterhours or weekend work required for maintenance windows.
Physical requirements: (items such as lifting, pushing, pulling, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, manual dexterity, walking etc.) Extended periods of sitting and keyboard use; minimal lifting or physical exertion.

Salary Posting Information:
This position falls within salaried grade 18 and the range for this position is $110,800-123,100. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
