Description
Position SummaryThe Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving manufacturing and assembly operations by acting as a key liaison between Engineering and the Plant. This role focuses on process improvement, plant flow, routing and BOM optimization, and hands-on support to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality production.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of manufacturing and assembly practices and is comfortable working on the shop floor while collaborating closely with Engineering, Purchasing, Vendors, and Management to support operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Floor Support
• Maintain a strong presence on the production floor supporting assembly, machine shop, Q.C.
• Act as the primary liaison between Manufacturing and Engineering to resolve build, design, and process issues
• Provide real-time troubleshooting and hands-on support to production teams
• Work with engineers on custom projects from concept through implementation, ensuring alignment with production capabilities.
Process Improvement & Efficiency
• Develop, improve, and document manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, safety, and product quality
• Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, waste elimination, and cycle-time improvements
• Review, maintain, and optimize Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings to ensure accuracy, manufacturability, and adherence to NLB standards.
Work Instructions & Documentation
• Assist in and review, and maintain clear, accurate work instructions for production operations
• Print and release complete job packages to start new units on the floor
• Ensure documentation is clear, accurate, and usable on the shop floor.
• Support training of operators on new or updated processes when required.
BOM, Print, & CAD Management
• Review and verify Bills of Material (BOMs)
• Document manufacturing feedback and changes to generate engineering change requests (ECRs)
• Use CAD software to support print updates, layouts, fixtures, and manufacturing-driven design changes
• Review Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and ensure changes are communicated and implemented correctly on the floor
Equipment & Capital Support
• Participate in decisions related to new equipment, tooling, fixtures, and process improvements
• Support equipment layout, installation, and process validation activities
Quality Support
• Ensure manufacturing processes meet quality, safety, and compliance requirements
• Work closely with Quality to address non-conformances and support corrective actions as needed.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience)
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude
• Experience working directly on the production floor
• CAD experience required
• Ability to read, interpret, modify, and mark up engineering drawings
• Experience with BOMs, work instructions, and production documentation
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
