Description
Position DescriptionSeattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
The Joint Use Wireline and Wireless Engineering and Wood Pole Design Teams are responsible for designing, maintaining, and managing both overhead and underground distribution systems within Seattle City Light's service territory. These teams ensure compliance with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) clearance requirements and contractual agreements, supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of electricity. Their work includes developing and overseeing engineering packages focused on primary and secondary circuits, communication attachments, and infrastructure improvements to meet the evolving needs of the utility and its customers.
Job Responsibilities
Here is more about what you'll be doing:
- Support and analyze Joint Use communications, fines, and transfer notifications to ensure accurate enforcement and timely resolution of violations.
- Research, analyze, and produce key metrics for Joint Use and the Wood Pole Design Team; collaborate with accounting to ensure all outstanding work is resolved.
- Maintain and audit WAM's, Poleman (Access) and Alden systems to ensure data accuracy, asset tracking, documentation compliance, and operational planning.
- Assist with the rollout, training, and ongoing support of Joint Use program management systems (Alden and WAM's); manage service requests and user access.
- Reconcile completed work with documentation and billing records to ensure accurate reporting and support compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
- Complete annual communications attachment billing and maintain MPAA and COI documentation, ensuring timely updates and preventing expiration.
- Study and analyze a variety of informational, operational, and management problems to identify program and system needs; recommend and implement solutions.
- Apply management and systems analysis techniques to address issues related to budget preparation, equipment and staff utilization, facility layout, workload forecasting, scheduling, procedures, priorities, and organizational structure.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, flowcharts, block diagrams, organization charts, correspondence, and memoranda outlining findings, visualizations, and actionable recommendations.
- Assist in the procurement of new equipment, consulting services, maintenance contracts, and hardware repair services, support integration of new systems into the workflow.
- Work collaboratively as a team player, building and maintaining positive working relationships with individuals across diverse backgrounds, roles, and personality types to support effective cross-functional coordination and program success.
- Perform other duties of a comparable level and type as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Experience: Requires two years in systems, operational, procedures, research or analysis.
Education: Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, finance, computer science or a related field (or a combination of education, training and/or experience that provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Certification/License: Current Washington State Driver's License.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Experience with audits, reporting, and compliance tracking
- Experience analyzing data across multiple data stores using Alden One, Work and Asset Management systems, Access database, Excel, Summit and PeopleSoft.
- Familiarity with Seattle City Light (or other electric utility) asset data and data flows
- Skilled in creating reports and visualizations to support data-driven decision-making and auditing system records for accuracy.
- Experience working cross-functionally with business users (e.g. IT, accounting, engineering, project management, etc.)
- Experience documenting functional and technical requirements and specifications
- Ability to interpret and produce construction documents, including plans, specifications, and schedules.

Additional Information
The full salary range for this position is $47.39 to $55.19 per hour.
